Few adventure races cover an elevation change as drastic as that of the Ski to Sea event in northwestern Washington on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend each year.

The race begins on Mount Baker, a 10,foot volcano, and ends 93 miles away on the shores of Bellingham Bay. Relay teams tackle seven legs: cross-country skiing, alpine skiing or snowboarding, running, road cycling, canoeing, cyclocross biking, and kayaking.

Teams can be made up of anywhere from three to eight team members, which means this is the perfect event to gather your hardiest crew of friends. In addition to the challenges presented by the obstacles the mud pits and slip-n-slides of your youth have nothing on these , your team of participants will need to be at the ready for a full 24 hours.

The Spartan Mountain Series includes races across the country. From high to low elevations and lush hillsides to rugged rock, they take place on all kinds of mountains, but all the races have a few things in common: relentless climbing, quad-busting descents, and a major challenge.

Competitors should be ready for steep climbing and descending off-trail on a 4,foot peak, and some seriously cold swimming over the course of 13 miles and 30 obstacles.

This 1-hour run is through the Southern Ontario woods as they are springing to life. Teams of 2 or 3 competing in their choice of a 4-hour or 8-hour race. Celebrate like rock stars at an exclusive post-race party.

TBD — The Smokey Race is limited to 52 participants and the Half Smokey is limited to participants. The long course 7. Teams of 3 or 4 navigate using map and compass over km of rugged Canadian Shield back-country on foot, mountain bike and canoe.

TBD — Cataraqui Adventure Trek in Kingston is an adventure race crossed with a Triathlon. The 7 to 10 km course consists of mountain biking, trail running and paddling.

Racers have 4 hours to complete the course as many times as they can. TBD — Race Across Waterloo Region is designed as an introduction to Adventure Racing. This event is a fundraiser for The Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region.

TBD — Raid the City Adventure Run in Hamilton for adults, family and juniors. This is a 3-hour race for teams of two. TBD — PeakPeak Adventure Run for adults and juniors. This 2-hour race has lots of climbs with checkpoints on top of peaks.

TBD — Raid The Hammer Adventure Run is in the Dundas area. The Full Raid is a 24 to 28 km course for Adults. The Half Raid is a 12 to 16 km course for adults and juniors.
