Abstract Background Black pepper is one of the most popular spices globally. Methods A within-participant design experiment was conducted with 20 male university students who performed a min calculation task as a short-term stressor under three aroma conditions: black pepper, ginger, and dipropylene glycol DPG scentless air as a control.

Results The physiological acute stress response induced by the short-term stressor, which is characterized by the enhancement of the heart rate HR and SCL and decreases in the heart rate variability HRV , was suppressed with black pepper: the increase in HR and reduction in HRV from the baseline were Conclusion Although black pepper is a stimulative agent, the study findings showed that black pepper aroma alleviated the physiological acute stress response, which can be beneficial in aromatherapy under stressful conditions.

In reviewing their website, Ancient Bliss seems to be a reputable company focused on Quality. They are GMP Certified and made in the USA.

Their website states that they routinely test starting with the raw materials through the finished product. The in house testing they state are done with their products consist of: FTIR Spectrometry, FT-NIR Spectrometry, and HPLC Microbial testing.

The capsules are a standard size and smell slightly herbal and a bit fruity to me. I did not notice any real flavor when swallowing them. The price of these seems slightly higher than some but lower than others.

One to one comparison is different because of the differing strengths, ingredients, and dosage recommendations. I do feel more comfortable purchasing even at a slightly higher price point when the company is taking steps to ensure a high quality product with a high level of transparency.

I've been using these for roughly a month now in place of a separate L-Theanine or Ashwagandha supplement and I think this will be the product I stick with for both due to the effects. I don't know if it's the black pepper or just in my head, but when I take these pills with some caffeine coffee, tea, preworkout, etc.

As for the pill itself, I compared this to another product that only has mg of active ingredients versus the mg in this product , and they were the same size pill.

Showing how much filler is NOT in this product and how much they're sticking to delivering the best product possible. My only recommendation is to take it with juice or something flavored. I do find the herbal taste to stand out quite a bit with just water.

But, that's for any product that is packed with herbal ingredients and is not exclusive to this product. I'm not certain that it helps with energy that effect may be very subtle ; but it's nice when you're stressed due to the Ashwagandha. After using this product I've noticed my irritability and how much work related stress affects me while I am there.

I tend to work long shifts, with the bulk of the stress meeting me at the door. For a dietary supplement it is textbook size and shape, so nothing too large or uncomfortable to swallow. The capsules taste delicious and work well.

They are also priced right. I have been taking the capsules for two weeks now, and I have noticed a significant improvement in my mood and energy levels. I am also sleeping better and feeling more focused. I am very pleased with the results so far.

I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a natural way to improve their mood, energy levels, and focus. I have used other Ashwagandha supplements but they have all been the single herb variety, this is the first multi herb formulation of Ashwagandha I have used. I know it Ashwagandha has real medicinal value because it has been used for a very, very long time in that capacity.

In fact it has been used so long there seems to be no definitive answer as to how long, nevertheless it has been used for thousands of years. I can speak to it being an adaptogen which is my main use of the herb the calming properties that it provides help me fall asleep faster so I take it before I go to bed, about 20 mins or so.

This Ancient Bliss brand also has L-Theanine which also promotes calm and purportedly balanced state of mind which makes this supplement pretty awesome.

The package contains 60 vegetable capsules. Serotonin Piperine, an active compound in black pepper, inhibits an enzyme that breaks down the calming neurotransmitter serotonin, according to a study published in the December issue of "Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry Letters," making it potentially useful in the treatment of some mood disorders.
